Just because you build something that makes a dangerous toy doesn't mean you should bring it into combat. What likely happened here is that he held it wrong when they were looting and gas got on the sprayer.

you should see some of the crazy crap my group tryed to pull .. >_< no you cant get exp for every single crewmember on that ship you just nuked.. >_<
That's why I like white wolf's experience system that rewards roleplaying. Rifts isn't too bad once you notice the experience isn't for killing it's for dealing with threats so the ship was a threat but not the crew individually.. so experience one time..
I much prefer Rolemaster - Whitewolf left a sour taste in my mouth from the live larpers. s for exp it has a very robust system. and actually has the line about the ship not the crew - covering events more than "kills"
