My friend Maurice has a rule when he is running a game that once you say you/your character does something it is done-or attempted.
The rule often makes things more fun but for the wrong reasons. If the action is something out of the character the storyteller really should give the player a chance to take it back even if it was their idea.
One way to take advantage of this rule as a player is to trick other players. Want to know if the hallway is booby trapped? Tell the player not paying attention that you all already left and if your lucky s/he will say "I walk down the hallway"
Logically the character would never fall for that- but rules are rules...
